I could be completely wrong on this but I told my roommates that there were specific topics a person should discuss before during and after certain meal times, while others such as, perhaps, suffering in Kenya were not pollite to discuss until after lunch or dinner.
Am I wrong? If not, what are the rules. _________________ Where Is My Mind?

Personally, I'll talk about most things as long as it's not something like a graphic description of the artwork someone made in the toilet-bowl during eating. _________________ Hellfrozeover be a pirate and a Transgenderzone moderator.
I don't stand under the TG umbrella anymore, it's way too bitchy and crowded in there but it's sunny out here

I don't think there are actually any official rules for polite conversation, I think it's about common sense really. Perhaps people from the upper echelons of society might have particular rules about topics allowed for discussion at certain times or places, I don't know.
Personally I don't mind talking about a lot of things, of course rude conversation or conversation about bodily functions and things like that or not very polite around times when people are eating. With most topics I'd say it's all about using your common sense to decide whether they are appropriate to discuss. _________________ Chrissy

Well hrumph! I thought I had seen some old period piece about this once upon a time where one older gent probably said something about a political discussion being inappropriate for meals before noon, but I've been wrong before - maybe I'm thinking of Old Elvish and Hobbits more than Old English and the British.
It seems like something I would have read out of a book, "The Picture of Dorian Grey," even. _________________ Where Is My Mind?

Corti, old bean, there are crumpets in my refrigerator, fully eight of Sainsbury's finest. Shall I have my man send them to you that they may enjoy the company of your hat at the dining table?
*don't believe I just typed that...*

I guess I too am a so called "Pleb." I don't feel any different but I like the title.
This means I can still talk about the cat puking at breakfast and finish it up with world hunger. Cheers! _________________ Where Is My Mind?
