Just got back from Docs. Was brickin it all day and even more so when i got to the surgery. Was first in which was definitely better as i would have certainly bottled it if waiting to long. once in the room, my doctor asked me what the problem was. Luckily i had sent a letter so all i had to do was ask her if she had received it. She had but hadn't had a chance to look into it so had to explain what Gender Dysphoria was. Over all it went well and i was almost a novelty as she said she had heard of it but never had a patient with GD. So glad it over and done with. she sais she would be looking into exactly what she needed to do and get me referred to where i need to be referred to.

Just one quick question, how long should i leave it before chasing her up to see if she has.

Matt

p.s sending a letter is a fantastic idea and would recommend it to anyone, just make sure you send it well in advance so they have a chance to look into it. (about 3months should do it lol Very Happy )

afternoon matt

well done on the first step and talking to the doc, i guess it all depends how long you should leave it before you contact/chase up the doc!

im sure you have read others peoples blogs and stories of there own experiences some good and run smooth and others not so quick and things getting lost in the post (as it were)

to be honest, its up to you to when you think you should chase it up, also if your doc has not 'treated someone before' then i guess you could take the lead and give them some info if when you contact them again you have not heard anything

also it might depend on were you have been refered to to how long it might take for an appointment:)

again congrates Smile

Hey Matt!

Well done on talking to your doctor mate - I bet you feel great now Very Happy

I didn't chase up my doctor at all, and it took him months to find out where to refer me etc. I did, however, have to go and see him on a completely different matter, and while I was there he actually mentioned that he hadn't forgotten about me and was still chasing it up. After that, I didn't really feel I could hassle him too much about it.

I guess I'd leave it a month or so, and then ask them where they were up to. However, having said that, it's probably unlikely that you'd receive a letter or anything within that timescale, even if they refer you today! Is there any chance you'll have to see her about anything else in a few weeks and can casually drop it into conversation then, to make it less like you're hassling her? You want to keep them on your side, after all, as they're the ones who'll be writing your T prescriptions and doing your blood tests etc eventually Wink

Keep us posted anyway mate!

Dave

Just a quick reply from me to say well done Matt Very Happy.

It's a shame that the doctor didn't read the letter before you got there, or maybe they did but wanted you to bring it up yourself. Anyway at least writing the letter probably helped you feel a little more at ease going to your appointment.

I hope your doctor finds out where to refer you quickly, it's hard to put a time on what is acceptable before chasing things up. If you're feeling fed up that you havn't heard back then perhaps like Dave said if you get to see your doctor about anything else then just give it a mention whilst you are there.

Well done mate, that's great news! It's not an easy step to take. I'm really pleased that your doctor is supportive of you and willing to work with your psychiatrist - it always makes things easier to have your doctor on your side.
