Ive got my blood test results back from the GP in readiness for seeing Dr Dean on Monday. The receptionist said that the Dr had had a look at them and some results were borderline - Does anyone know if thats a really bad thing?

Im guessing as long as they are the right side of the border (so to speak) and they havent rushed me into the nearest hospital it wouldnt be too bad but Im not sure!

Borderline? What's that supposed to mean - that's a really unhelpful thing to say, in my opinion.

What blood tests did you have, and did she say which one(s) were borderline? And is she aware of why you're having blood tests - because if not, how can she possibly say that they're borderline!

For instance, one of my recent blood tests came back as ABNORMAL (written in block capitals on the print out). This meant that firstly, the nurse wasn't allowed to tell me the result, I had to see the doctor about it, and secondly, I was a bit worried for a few days til I saw the doctor. It turned out that all it meant was that my T levels were above the "normal" range for a guy - but that's pretty much fine anyway!

Before I started T, I had to see the endo at CX (not everyone does) as my initail bloods came back abnormal. This was just a sign that I had PCOS (which I already knew) so need to be monitored slightly differently from guys without PCOS. Might something like this be the case for you also?

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry about it. There's very little that can actually mean that you're unable to take T at all, apart from severe liver problems, I believe. Is there any way you can get a telephone consultation with your doctor to ask what they meant by borderline?

I didn't understand the borderline thing either! I assume they mean borderline normal? I have been ill for a long time and am only just getting back to normal so that may have something to do with it

The tests were the ones I assume everyone has pre T. To be honest I wasn't sure what most of them were for.

Although my actual GP knows all about me (obviously!) the Dr that looked at the results isn't my normal Dr so I don't know for definite that he knew what the tests were for.

Im picking up a copy of the results tomoro so I will ask if I can discuss them with a Dr - otherwise Im just gonna worry all wkend! Like you said just ringing me up and saying Im 'borderline' doesn't really help!

I think that it's disgraceful and unprofessional to say your results are borderline and then leave you worrying in what respect they are abnormal. Phone your GP tomorrow (os ASAP) and ask in what way they are borderline. I pick up a copy of my full blood test results every time they are done (have done since I started T which was over a year ago and have kept them all to keep an eye on things myself) and to be honest you can tell whether anything is wrong because it first lists your result for each test and then says what the reading should be. The only one I have ever had outside this range was testosterone after I started the injections and as Dave said had "outside range" written on it.

Thats what I thought.

Im guessing the only reason they did let me have them was because they knew I was going to take them to Dr Dean on Monday but as a Dr had to review them before they would let me have them why didnt he just pick up the phone and speak to me for 5 minutes to explain them?

Exactly! Do they really have no idea of how much worry saying something like that can cause a person?

It might be worth putting something in writing about it to your doctor and the practice manager. Then again, I can envisage that the only effect it might have would be that they'd then make some sort of rule that said that everyone needs to see a doctor to pick up ANY blood test results, thus making it even harder to get an appointment, and meaning that if you needed the results urgently you wouldn't be able to get them in time! Rolling Eyes

Yea, I really dont want to make things more difficult for other people or myself! I think I'll mention it to my GP (the one I usually deal with - shes very good - unlike the Dr that checked my results) and make sure she knows it did cause an amount of distress
