I thought we'd do well to have a thread where we can share our knowledge of computers.
I use Firefox as my browser and very pleased with it I am too. So much better than Internet Explorer. I like the add-ons that you can get. One that I find very useful is the spell-checker. There are many dictionaries for different languages. It's so useful when you're posting because it picks up on your mistakes as you type them, much as Word does.
Click on Tools > Add-ons and then click and select Extensions. There is a link in the bottom right-hand corner that says "get extensions". Click on that and it will take you to a Firefox web page with plenty of add-ons to choose from.
Ad blocker is very good and there are plenty of different skins to choose from, too. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

I had Firefox briefly but I found it a bit too chunky for my liking. I'm using IE7 and the Google Bar just now and I'm quite satisfied for now. Just getting used to using tabs instead of new windows. They're useful things. _________________ Hellfrozeover be a pirate and a Transgenderzone moderator.
I don't stand under the TG umbrella anymore, it's way too bitchy and crowded in there but it's sunny out here

You can change the themes (or skins) in Firefox. I'm using a theme called "Blue Ice" and it's not at all clunky. It's clean and elegant. It uses the similar colours to the tzone forum, in fact. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

One thing I did like about it was that you could download loads of files at the same time. With IE, I can only usually download two at once although I like IE 7's design. It's even smaller than the previous one and leaves lots of page room . Google Bar seems to keep popups at bay. _________________ Hellfrozeover be a pirate and a Transgenderzone moderator.

Firefox's download manager allows you to pause and restart a download too. very useful if your system crashes half way through a long download since it will restart from where it left off. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

I'm also using IE7, much better then FX IMO, I do however have FX on my computer, but this is purely for the fact that I've got to make sure that my xhtml, css and other things behave in the same way under both browsers.
I do prefer the way IE7 renders things though... it just looks cleaner then FX. There is one problem that I have noted with IE7 though and thats a problem with the cache which makes things hard with php.
but also lets not forget that explorer is an integral part of the windows operating system thus, it loads up a billion times faster then FX (yeah I know once firefox has loaded it stays in the memory allowing for quick execution).

I use firefox, i cannot stand IE. IE is copying Firefox now anyway. To be truthful i don't really like any of microsoft's software very much. There hardware is pretty good though, my keyboard is made by them and has survived 4 years of being battered by me .

I'm using IE7 and I absolutely love the tabs idea, one thing though that is getting on my nerves is that on IE6 you could press ctrl and click onto links and popups and I can't seem to do that with IE7. I must admit though that I don't know that much about internet browsers. _________________ Chrissy

No worries, Juz...
Here's a weird one. I was getting messages from Eegor this morning, telling me that there were no more network connections available. I've got Diogenes with me at the moment and I'm asking the two to talk to each other to transfer music files from D to E.
I've been running Google Earth (wonderful. Check out the Matterhorn or Mount Everest's South-West Face - gives me vertigo. Anyway...) and it seems that it's the guilty party. I closed Diogenes down, rebooted and left GE alone and everything works fine.
The setup is Eegor (desktop) and Diogenes (laptop) as a minimal network, communicating through a BT Voyage 2500V router using ethernet. Eegor has Win2K and Diogenes XP Home.
I love computers _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room
