Following some confusion here in recent weeks, I decided to get some answers at the Sandyford this afternoon.

Dr Carr told me that they prefer to have new patients referred by a GP or other suitably qualified medical professional such as a psychiatrist. This is so that they have already established a connection with a new patient's doctor before the first appointment. It makes life easier for everybody.

It is still possible to self-refer. One simply phones her secretary Anne McDonald or one walks into the Sandyford and asks to make an appointment as a new gender patient (remember the Sandyford is more than just a gender clinic).

Do not present at the monthly drop-in as this is for established patients only.
