I don't have a GRC yet. I'm probably eligible given the time scale...
Anyway, I'd like to know what stays on the revised birth certificate.
I was born in 1968, so I have a dog-eared document that proclaims both my parents' names and their address at the time. Father's occupation is also recorded. Needless to say, if any of this is retained, I can see trouble ahoy.
I believe I'm right in saying that once I'm granted a GRC in my new name and I change my birth certificate, it will be the name I bear at the time that will be recorded and I will not be able to change it thereafter (unless I yo-yo through two changes afterwards... )
My surname at present is Bujman. I adopted it for a number of positive reasons, largely to do with my brother, but also to do with my residence in my home village where that name was my nickname. Adopting it as my surname worked well and made sense when I intended to live in Somerset, but circumstances have changed.
Here in Scotland, no-one knows how to pronounce it and they don't feel comfortable with it either. Nor do I any longer. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

The "u" is short-but-not-quite, such is the Somerset dialect. Let it drag on slightly.
Most people assume I'm Dutch or Croatian and then make a hash of trying to pronounce it...
I'm usually Boodgm'n, sometimes Budgm'n, occasionally Buy-m'n but never the correct Budge-man with slightly more emphasis on the first syllable.
Everyone in Wedmore knows how it should be pronounced.
My brother called me Budge when he was learning to speak and it stuck. Later, when video games machines appeared but only had three character spaces for the high score, Budge became Buj. Man (ironically) came later, when I was about eighteen.
I think the name has done its tour of duty and it's time to lay it to rest.
Surnames beginning with "B", please, so I don't have to change my initials, or any surname with a funky explanation. I have a few lined up, but I'm not telling. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

I don't have a new birth certificate yet (technically I should have been eligible to apply in January 08, but that would require me contacting previous employers who I really don't want to contact, so I've decided to wait until next January as I have evidence from then already) - so I can't help you from personal experience. However, there's some information here that might help. I thought I'd seen a picture of one somewhere, but maybe it was a picture of a GRC - but I can't find it now anyway!

I called them and said that if I go for mine, would I have any problems by not having a birthcertificate, they said no as there are copies in the arkives, so do not worry about that to much.
Just let them know when you apply.
