As Harry Benjamin is quoted so often I thought I'd have a read of what he actually wrote. Only way I could get a copy was to ask library to order it from archives. Now I've got a letter to say its arrived but i can only read it in the library! I hope it isnt too thick or I'll need to spend days there.
Whats really annoying is that I can request other rare or old books and bring them home without hassle so am I being paranoid in thinking there might be some transphobic bias going on here as all the library computers block any attempt to reearch trans/intersex/GRS etc

Benjamin's Transsexual Phenomenon can be read online or downloaded without payment from the old IJT site here:

http://www.symposion.com/ijt/benjamin/index.htm

Do remember that it was written more than forty years ago. Some of Benjamin's ideas have not stood the test of time, but are of historic interest nonetheless.

Reference books are not usually available for borrowing from the public library service, and may be studied only on the premises.

Totally uncalled for but you do seem to live north of the border so the comment is only to be expected.

Spent a couple of hours with the book this lunchtime. Copied a few interesting bits out for my GP.
Actually I thought it all sounded really familiar and gives the impression there has been no new thoughts about the whole transgender things since 1966.
When we consider every other medical complaint has new ways to diagnose, assess, treat, cut and cure them we have to wonder why we still have such trouble getting service out of our NHS for what seems such an simple, easily described condition.
Maybe harry's book needs to be put on the syllabus of GP education?

First... you weren't actually called thick, you know. She said if you -were- it would take you months to read it. Humour and so on.

Second: lolhypocricy.

Thank you, Sophie. Indeed, I knew nothing of noagirl's intellect, nor did I make any assumptions. I'm a little wiser now... Wink

I'll point out that north of the border, we don't seem to be racist howks like yourself so watch what you're saying. Reenie didn't even say you were actually thick but I think she's managed to prove that you are.

I don't stand under the TG umbrella anymore, it's way too bitchy and crowded in there but it's sunny out here Smile

Thank you, HFO. Well put.

For the record, I am an ex-pat Englishwoman with sympathies on both sides of the border.

Sorry, but if you put not and too together in one sentence it does quantify what you are implying.

reenie should not have put the 'too' in. take the too out and the sentence is inoffensive and some might say humourous.
