hi all im new here on the forum

my name is jonathon i am a MtF transexual
I like listining, creating and playing music (i play keyboard), shopping, guys (and girls), chocolate and clubbing. Im originally from bournemouth but i go to college in birmingham.
I have always known this since i was 4 but only when i was 7 did i fully understand what i was. I whent through alot of bullying at school and was fourced in to hiding, so i ended up spending 12 years trying to deny who i am.
Now i am 20 and sick of the hiding ive recently made the decision to try and start the process of becoming fuly female but im not entirley shure what the first step would be. im already taking care of the cosmetic side of things like wearing makeup losing weight and thats all fine, but not shure were to start on the medical/psycological front.
As you might have noticed jonathon is the name i was born with but im still trying to decide on a nice female name for myself. I quite like Jenny but like so much of this it is a big decision, i will be living with the name i chose for the rest of my life and i would like to get it right first time. but for now you can all call me jenny. I have already told my mum about my bisexuality but am unshure how to tell her im a transexual. My mum is in her 60's (im adopted) and i just know she would totally freak out. So this is why i decided to come here to see if i can get support from some like minded people and a point in the right direction to get the whole process started.
Thanks for reading *hugs all*

Hello there!

I look to be in your area Wink
(PM me for more details, this is my super-seeekrit online identity so I don't like saying much more publicly about where I am Razz)

At this stage, just explore and enjoy yourself! Very Happy Don't feel pressured into any stereotype or manner of presentation, and build up your confidence.

Depending upon where you are living in Birmingham, you might have some excellent care available to you. Your GP tends to be the best person to talk to about this.

Also, most colleges and universities also have counselling services available, which are required to be understanding. You might want to try booking an appointment with them to help you through the early stages, and shop around the staff they offer until you find one you like.

The first person to see would be your GP if you are planning to transition using the NHS. Usually your GP would then refer you to a local psychiatrist who would assess you before making a decision whether to refer you to a gender identity clinic where you can get treatment, It seems that procedures vary from area to area but that's what normally happens. Unfortunately it's a long process using the NHS so you can expect to wait quite a lot of time in between appointments.

Awww, telling family can be a hard thing to do and it can sometimes be hard for them to accept, I have found though with my own personal experience that some people can surprise you and be more understanding than you'd think. I think though it's one of those things that quite often you don't know how someone will react until you tell them. Many of our members here have had some really positive stories about coming out to families, I'm sure there will be plenty of people here willing to share their experiences with coming out and will be able to help with ideas and ways that worked for them.

Feel free to start a blog in the My Story and Daily Blogs section. For me personally having a blog here on tzone has really helped me over the last couple of years. It's a good way to get advice and support and feel part of the wonderful community here on tzone. Of course you can ask us any questions too, we have all sorts of members here at all stages of transitioning and between us all there is quite a wealth of knowledge so usually someone can find an answer.
