Hiya,
Firstly welcome to Tzone . There are quite a few members on here that are a similar age to you or started at your age so maybe they'll come a long later and introduce themselves.
From what you've said, it sounds like you've got some form of GID(gender identity disorder) but I really couldn't say as I don't know you and I'm not a doctor. It's not a disease, it's just one of these things that happen and is more commonly being seen as a type of intersex or a birth defect so it's not your fault or anyone else's .
It's not impossible to start the process at your age. Many have managed it but then again, many haven't. Having the support of your parents puts chances of being able to get the ball rolling (if you choose to) in your favour. The best step to begin with is to have your GP refer you to a psychologist or counsellor with experience of transsexual or GID patients. He will then assess you and possibly refer you to a clinic that specifically treats GID patients. The legal age for starting hormone blockers and hormones for your mental gender is not eighteen like many think it is but sixteen. Sometimes blockers are administered earlier though.
You'll get a few people who'll be desparate to tell you how hard and awful this is and sometimes it can be but a large part of it depends on how you go about things and view them. If you want it to happen and are willing to make things happen then eventually they will .
Good luck! _________________ Hellfrozeover be a pirate and a Transgenderzone moderator.
I don't stand under the TG umbrella anymore, it's way too bitchy and crowded in there but it's sunny out here

Hi, and welcome to tzone!
It's great that you've got your parents' support - that'll really help you loads
You've done the right thing in going to your GP, but unfortunately it sounds as though he doesn't really know what to do. You don't say where you're based, but assuming you're in the UK, he should refer you to a gender specialist. I'm not 100% sure about this, but as you're under 18 if you're in England (or Wales, probably?) I think you will need to be referred to the Tavistock Clinic in London. You might want to print out the information on that link, and take it to your GP so that he can see how to contact them, as it might be that you have to be referred by a local psych rather than by your GP.
By the way, do you have a preferred name that you'd like to use on here? It's fine to try one out and then change your mind if you decide on a different one!
Good luck, and let us know how you get on mate!
Dave

Hi Scott, Im Elliott, welcome to TZone, if yu have any questions then theres plenty of people on here that would be able to give you advice.plenty of guys on here feel the sameas you do including myself, and it is hard when your as young as you are, im 21 and started transitioning at 19.
you put that your doctor recons it would take til your 26??
as far as i know i dont think thats correct, it does tak a long time yes, but i dont think you have to wait that long for anuything to happen, (and Dave is the guy to ask for info really) but first of all you have to live as you chosen gender, allthough im not sure how long for, i think 2 years is the deal, but i did 18 months after i changed my name, .. but ive always worn mens clothes.
well anyway, good luck with everything mate, and feel free to post away on the forums, its helped me out no end and i have some good mates on here now! _________________ Creativity takes it's inspiration from the Tortured Soul

yeah, i have horrible memories of being shoved into dresses when i was little.. my parents feel bad now! well, you seem to have a lot of positives around you, like your parents and your girlfriend. its always good to have people supporting you, u just have to keep reminding youself of that when you get down about stuff.

Hey Scott!
Definitely get back to your GP with the information about the Tavistock Clinic and ask him to refer you there - and then give it a few weeks and go and chase it up to make sure he's sent the referral!
It definitely shouldn't take til you're 26 for them to "think about doing something" - your GP really ought to check his facts before making daft statements like that. Even if you can't get treatment at 16 for some reason, there's no reason at all why you can't get it pretty much as soon as you turn 18, in terms of your age at least. Obviously, on the NHS they have waiting lists, and they require you to live full-time for at least 3 months, change your name etc, but that's nothing to do with how old you are.

Treatment is free on the NHS - you just pay your standard prescription charges. There are options to go privately for those who can afford it, but it's not necessary if you can't. Surgery is also free on the NHS, although again you can choose to go privately for some or all of it if you wish. So don't worry about the cost or having to do double shifts!
I'm not sure what you mean by till your full T is done - we generally carry on taking T for the rest of our lives. Most changes will happen in the first 3-5 years of taking T; however, without taking T some changes can reverse - plus, it's inadvisable from a health point of view to have no hormones at all in the body.

You can do that if you want, or you an always change your name legally, either with a statutory declaration or with a deed poll, and then all your qualifications etc will be in your correct name - which will obviously make it easier in future when you need to show them to new employers etc, and save the hassle of having to get them changed at a later date.
