Got to love the government. This is a government sponsored "research" forum, targeted at 16-25 year olds, trying to get their ideas on the ID scheme. They claim that they are an open forum (and by open they mean open only to 16-25 year olds who register), and that they are just trying to get an idea of what youth think about it (with a bit of an attempt to get down wit da yoofs, and to "educate" them as to why ID cards are important). Well, seems that so far the only pro ID people are the mods. Funny that...

I'd like the idea of an ID card, but the way out goverment does things, i think ill pass.

It's like the great idea of photocard driving license. Great but you still need to carry the paper bit with you >.<
Or the HIPS pack for the house. It's full of useless crap like the carbon footprint of your house or the engery rating. people want to know what the electrics are like or is the boiler going to blow up.

Although I supported the idea of the age of tobacco sale bieng raised to 18 (kills off the stupid "Think of the children" argument I get from antis), the timing of it I thought was rather sneaky.
Unlike with alchohol which if you drink, you'll probably only need ID for about once a week at most at that age, due to lower wages, if you're a smoker and under 21 you'll be showing ID every single morning for about 3 years. I've worked in retail for several years and there's currently only two things that you can gauruntee will be accepted as ID. Your passport or driving license. Forget those proof of age cards. They're a waste of time as anybody worth thier salt knows how easy they are to forge. Your passport and driving license are very precious things. Least of all because it can cost you nearly a hundred pounds to replace them nowadays. Having to carry one of these every day and be flapping it around inthe corner shop is enough to make anybody feel nervous.
NOW they start asking young people if they'll feel effected by carrying ID cards and no doubt the 1/2 of them that smoke will chime in and say "Well I have to carry ID every day anyway, so what's the problem?". I find it very suspect tbh.
