The Mummy, part 1 and 2. I know them by heart. No, I don't have a life
By the way, I was an optimist about Dragon Ball the Movie but it's gonna be late and also disappointing. I don't expect it to "shine" like the manga did. _________________ Just that tiny bit of freedom you give yourself is enough to set your mind between the constellations. It's priceless.

It's a money making business dude I got an impression they're making second or third parts of movies just to keep on profiting during lack of ideas. One of the funniest things I heard " I didn't like Fellowship of the Ring cos it didn't have a proper ending "
My friend came to work having been to see the new Indiana Jones going " ****** in Indiana Jones what's all that about " I've edited slightly because I don't want to spoil it _________________ "Everywhere I go I hear what' going on,

Am I allowed to nominate a worst movie ever..... As a keen player of Dungeons and Dragons I was chuffed to bits when I found out a D&D movie was coming out.
It was awful, awful, awful. I left the cinema feeling so embarassed that the half-wits in Hollywood had done this to my hobby.
Jeremy Irons had more ham than a pork only butchers. _________________ "Everywhere I go I hear what' going on,

lol Thats exactly what i thought when i first saw it, but if you look past "That" It's not such a bad film.
The DnD film isnt the one that came out a couple of years ago is it, that was truely awful. Another really bad film I've seen is 'Flood', the one about the Thames barrier.
I just watched the Illusionist, looking at the cover i would never have picked it up but a friend lent it to me. It was so good i watched it twice lol

I haven't seen the new Indiana Jones movie. I am really keen to see it but have no-one to go with so I'll probably end up going alone sometime soon.
I used to play D&D too but I never knew there was a movie. As for the Lord of the Rings films, I was hugely disappointed in them, probably because I am a huge fan of the books and had read them several times before the movies were released. I think though I have got over the disappointment now, it is so hard for a story to make the transition from book to film. If I had not have read the books I'm sure I would have thought they were absolutely amazing. I still do think they have probably done the best job possible, telling Lord of the Rings on film I think was almost an impossible task. When I heard they were making it I was so pleased to hear that Peter Jackson was the director, I have been a big fan of his directing work ever since Bad Taste. Personally I think 6 films might have done the story better justice, after all there are 6 books, well each book is split into 2 smaller books if you look in the contents. I was also surprised that they didn't test the water with the hobbit first.
The best points in the LOTR films for me were the casting, they actually found people that looked like how I imagined most of the characters to look like, and the special effects, they were simply outstanding. Of course large portions of the storyline and certain characters had to be omitted and events had to be changed around and a few other things were changed to make them a successful series of movies. _________________ Chrissy

Just watched "Babel"... it won lots of nominations and some awards. A complex drama set in 3/4 stories, which are all inter-woven, but distinct. In my mind that's an ALMODOVAR-style film, but anyway, outstanding acting, directing, editing. The only part of the film that sucked was the central theme, starring Kate Blanchett and Brad Pitt. Their part of the story was pointlessly sentimental and didn't have a chance to be well acted. The surrounding 'sub-plots' were engaging and brilliantly acted.
P.S> I wouldn't watch this film if you're in the mood for a 'pick me up'. I found it depressing (and I have several album by 'The Cure.'

Agreed. The BBC radio series left so much more to the imagination...how could the films ever compete to with my mental fantasy version?... But having said that, I think that the film did a fantastic job at recreating the vision of the guy who, to my mind drew the best illustrations to the film, whose name is um, I forget...bugger...

My sister who is the only person I have really talked about things to (just dont tell me to go faster, i'm going as fast as i can) recommended fight club which i thought was a really stupid suggestion like she hadn't understood what i was trying to say at all. or that she thought 'if you just watch one good macho film' which is stupid as well cos she really likes the film. Anyway she has this theory (well she did say not her theory, she'd been doing some research since my 'revelation' and someone else suggested it)- the main guy is tg and tyler and marla (anagram of alarm btw) are his/her 2 sides slugging it out. so, reluctantly, i borrowed the film from BB and i can see where she's coming from. he says 'the trouble all started with marla'. i'm not having a down on myself here but i can't deny life would be sorta easier if i felt happy in my skin. tyler is super macho, marla is gorgeously feminine (how many of us have made a really macho outer shell for fear of our sicko feminine side (as we think everyone else will think of it if they find out) being found out? oh just me then ) sadly he ends it by killing himself (with marla there and i guess (s)he's found inner peace) and we know there is a high rate of suicides in tgs. So then i looked up the author and lo and behold his next book was about an mtf so now i'm feeling kinda sisterly to marla and a bit boo hoo hoo. what do others think?

I've never watched Fight Club but you've got me interested now.
The other night I watched The Devil Wears Prada for like the zillionth time. That damn film makes me feel fat every single time. It also makes me hunt Ebay for vintage designer clothing. Hmm. _________________ Hellfrozeover be a pirate and a Transgenderzone moderator.

I have read a lot of Chuck Palahnuik but as yet have not read Fight Club, but this theory of yours wouldn't surprise me. He writes 'transgressional fiction' which 'is a genre of literature that focuses on characters who feel confined by the norms and expectations of society and who use unusual and/or illicit ways to break free of those confines.'
So, given that, it does not surprise me, but I will be reading it soon. Sadly, a lot of movies are not on the same wavelink as the books.
Back to the topic:
I watched 30 Days of Night, and apart from the ugly cast (yes, I am that shallow), it wasn't so bad. I thought it was going to be absolutely terrible. Thankfully the vampyres looked awesome.
I also watched Pathfinder, which is a pretty good movie. I hadn't heard much of it but kept seeing it in the video shop and at video stores. It has Karl Urban and Clancy Brown in it, and it has a similar feel to Mel Gibson's Apocolypto, but it has Clancy Brown in it, and that's enough for me. Very epic/fantasy-ish if you like that. AWESOME production design. _________________ why so serious?

I loved Fight Club, the film. And from the ads for it I thought it would be dreadful. But I took a chance on it and was well rewarded. I've heard that the book is "much better" and that it has a different ending. Hearing you describe Palahnuik, I'll have to put him on my "must read" list.
For those of you who are "shallow" enough to care, but not into all those buff boy bodies, Helena Bonham Carter plays a very charming Marla. Unfortunately she doesn't get her top off like all the blokes in the film.
P.S. Keep an eye out for Meatloaf in as "bob" the man moobs!
