HOLY SHIT!!!!
I DID IT!!!
Leeds GIC has now faced a royal grilling at the hands, of Barry Sheerman, my MP who I wrote to and WE HAVE RESULTS!!!
I have my first appointment within 18 weeks of this day. As does everyone currently on the Leeds GIC waiting list! I just had a phone call from them and they said it could be as early as NEXT MONTH!!!!
Future patients will now all be treated within 18 weeks.
I cant believe it. I am absolutly over the moon! I cant believe it's actualy worked!

Rachel, this sounds like excellent news.
But do remember that promises made by, and to, politicians, and promises made by beleaguered NHS officials called to account by MPs, are often very temporary, so don't get all over the moon until your bum is actually on the seat facing the trick cyclist in the GIC.
The "18-Weeks" NHS programme has so far only been implemented by wide-reaching management fudging and waiting-list manipulation, so don't take your eye off the ball until you are home and dry!
And well done for getting your MP to show an interest!

CONGRATULATIONS RACHEL!
That is excellent news - and despite Stella's caution, I think it's definitely a major step forward and well worth celebrating!
Have you contacted PFC about this? I'm sure they'll be very interested in your news - I think you should give them a ring or email them asap - as in, NOW!
It just goes to show that it CAN be worth making the effort to write to your MP or take other action. GO YOU!

I got a call this morning too.
I am extremely dubious to say the least, especially as I have very little respect for the NHS's professionalism having been treated very poorly over the last 3 years.
But then again it would be nice to actually have a decent level of personal care. As I have always felt that Dr Curtis was never able to answer a lot of my questions or concerns (or offer any serious advice outside of hormone treatment), mainly due to the fact that I am unable to afford an in-depth series of consultations.
But it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

I'm still buzzing from all this and I really am wondering if it was my letters to the MP that got things moving at last.
I am hoping it's real and not just some gimmick. I did email PFC after you said Dave. Not sure what they'd want to know, so i pretty much did a copy and paste job.
Glad you got your call as well Rach'. I was goign to ask.
Lets hope this is for real! _________________ I look back at most of my life and think "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?!??"

I think you have reason to feel quietly optimistic, Rachel, but I would advise you to remain psychologically prepared for a long haul, so that you can enjoy being pleasantly surprised if things work out faster, but won't be dangerously demoralized if they do not.
Above all, don't let your emotional well-being become a hostage to the erratic behaviour of the NHS, or you might well fizzle if your hopes of a prompt resolution are thwarted.
You will surely get onto the gender reassignment programme at Leeds GIC sooner or later, Rachel, so if you sit down and think for a few minutes on what you would actually get in practical terms from being interviewed by a psychiatrist for an hour, you will see that it is not very much. So you should now leave the NHS on the back burner until it comes to the boil, and get on with all the rest of your life - or you will surely become emotionally exhausted by living in a world of future expectation over which you have very little control.

Wonderful news Rachel , I am so happy for you.
Do they have the resources to treat everyone currently on the waiting list within 18 weeks I wonder? As Stella says I hope they don't find some legal way to worm their way out of what they have promised. This does sound like exceptional news though, well done Rachel . _________________ Chrissy

Nicely done Rachel, as with Stella I would advise caution but I think you are entitled to feel really good about yourself.
