I challenge this. Which law?

As far as I know, ownership of a passport is not compulsory any more than is a driving licence. Everyone has a birth certificate and a national insurance number, verifiable at the local tax office and these are all you should ever need to secure employment.

I very much doubt that Sainsbury's would pursue an unlawful action and I will certainly challenge them if they have adopted this as policy.

Thanks, Cayden. There's something suspicious about it and I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

Looks like birth certificate in conjunction with an official document identifying name and NI insurance number should be sufficient to satisfy the legal requirements.

which still doesn't solve the outing oneself at interview issue.

Isnt exactly hard for people to turn round and employ a "better qualified" or "more suitable" candidate.

There will be a way around this. I have precisely the same problem with regard to documentation at the moment.

:'( IT'S AWFUL!

My laptop's main graphics card died today :'(

fingers crossed it can do all i need to study for the year, and however long after that till i can afford a new alienware system.

right now its operating at the power of an off the shelf laptop, well 1gb ram, 2.0ghz processor and unknown graphics ability, but not as much as most of my programs use.

I can live without pc gaming though, i still have my ps2 and DS. I'm just really upset that my system has become unwell.

It was goos to look at though.

Hi Cayden

These two may offer a solution to the problem. From List A in the document...

7. An Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office or the Border and Immigration Agency to the holder with an endorsement indicating that the person named in it is allowed to stay indefinitely in the United Kingdom or has no time limit on their stay in the United Kingdom, when produced in combination with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance Number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.

13. A letter issued by the Home Office or the Border and Immigration Agency to the holder which indicates that the person named in it is allowed to stay indefinitely in the United Kingdom when produced
in combination with an official document giving the person’s
permanent National Insurance Number and their name issued by a
Government agency or a previous employer.

This is a Home Office problem and it is for them to resolve. I will write to them in due course. I have to go out tomorrow and Friday so it may have to wait until next week.

well the new uni year is going well.

not one person has taken me for female.

though my housemate nearly fucked that up by referring to me as she around my new course mates.

Smile

had an intresting conversation earlier.

was talking about the lgbt at keel to a group of people who are fast becoming friends, otherwise known as my university's knitting community, though that's irrelevant.

anyway, one of them asked me if there were any trans people, and when i said yes they asked what they were like, were they just like everyone else and they seemed to have no idea that i fit under the trans heading.

it was a surreal experiance.
