I've never really followed motorcycle racing as it makes me feel uneasy. I feel like I'm about to fall off and hurt myself. Sitting on the floor doesn't help.
I've got some photographs somewhere of a mate who used to go bike racing. We went to watch him at Castle Combe and it was as wet as the Sachsenring was today.
I'll have to look up that one about Alabama... _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

Alabama looks rather scary. Won't be going there...
This cheered me up, though.

ZoneAlarm have fixed the problem that conflicted with the Microsoft update, so they say. I've installed the ZoneAlarm upgrade and the reinstalled the Microsoft upgrade. All I need to do is reboot. If you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know it's not worked.
I got 'round to installing a memory upgrade on my laptop yesterday and that certainly does work. 256MB beforehand, now 1GB and the laptop's as happy as Larry. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

Hope it all works fine Reenie I loved that Reliant Robin Shuttle video btw, pretty funny, especially the looks on the faces of the engineers when they were showing them what they wanted to do

Friends J & S who run my old local have announced their engagement. There'll be a party and I'm invited.
I'm not going 400 miles to a place I've turned my back on, thanks. I've wished them congratulations and told them I'm too ill to travel.
Harvest Home asked me if I'd be prepared to update their website with photographs after this year's event. I think the concept of "resignation" may need explaining to them.
(Thought I'd be a grouch for a bit...) _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

Aha! 2500 posts, one more than Ice Maiden. I didn't realise I talked so much rubbish. There again, my avatar's in the dustbin at the moment, so it figures. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

Congratulations on hitting 2500 Reenie - a milestone indeed!
And you don't talk rubbish, honest - well, not all the time anyway...

Finally got to see the endo today and the nurse took away rather a lot of blood for analysis. I have another appointment in six weeks time, which brings me neatly to my third Reeniversary.
That's right, folks. Three years after starting hormones, I finally get to know what their levels are.
I'm staying on the Dianette for the time being. There may be some fine tuning by adding a bit more cyproterone acetate or an appropriate estrogen, but the doctor seemed happy with my "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude.
He must get some right numpties in there. He was explaining how increasing the dose won't increase one's boob size because there are only so many receptors for the hormones (yes, doc, I know...)
He described my 35mcg as a "chunky dose" and warned against taking two pills a day ("Russian Roulette...")
He discoursed at length about the risks of DVT and told of two of his trans patients who had died in the last three years.
All in all, a productive meeting. Next, to the Sandyford in three weeks. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

We had wonderful weather in Glasgow today and I stretched my legs all over town and took loads of photographs.

Hi Reenie,
In your July 17 post, you mentioned a dosage without indicating which medication you were referring to:
| Quote: | | He described my 35mcg as a "chunky dose" and warned against taking two pills a day ("Russian Roulette...") |
Is it some form of estrogen? I’ve been using estriol cream, only 10% of which supposedly makes it into the blood stream; which means, I’m getting a dose of about 100mcg per day. I thought that was only a sixth or a twelfth of the normal dose for transsexuals and post-menopausal women. I’d be mighty obliged, Ma’am, Reenie, if you could tell me what drug, 35 mcg of which your endocrinologist called a “chunky dose,” he meant.
Better to strike out [baseball] than stroke out, I always say.
I wish I could enjoy some of your good Glasgow weather.
Best wishes, from the monsoonal, now humid, Sonoran Desert.

Yes, estriol is the weakest of the three forms of estrogen. The normal proportions in a woman’s blood are as follows: estriol 90%, estrone 7%, and estradiol 3%. Estradiol is by far the strongest of the three. Estrone is somewhere in between.
Some physicians make the following argument: Estradiol is the most aggressive form of estrogen and the most associated with malignant tumors. Whereas, . . .
“Well potency isn't everything. In fact, Estriol is vitally important precisely because it is a weak estrogen. A number of studies, published over four decades, have demonstrated that estriol's unique and perhaps most important role, may be to oppose the growth of cancer, including cancer promoted by its more potent cousins, Estrone and Estradiol. We'll talk more about this in a moment.
Estriol plays more than just a defensive role though. European physicians have been open to the potential benefits of Estriol in menopausal women than those in the US. As a result, most of the clinical research evaluating Estriol has been conducted in Europe. In general, these studies show that menopausal women who use natural Estriol to replace their natural estrogen experience a reduction in typical menopausal symptoms like, hot flashes and thinning of the vaginal tissue (vaginal atrophy)“
– from http://www.antiaging-systems.com/extract/esnprog.htm
I’m not a physician, but I try to play one in my head. Your endocrinologist would know best. In any case, the idea is to have the same proportion of human or synthetic estrogens as pre-menopausal women have. The three work well together in those proportions.
I was thinking of the coolness of Glasgow, or is that yet another delusion of mine? Here, the monsoon has just been flirting and playing games for the last few days. Threatening clouds move in, thunderheads tower over the valley and the mountains on all four sides, but no rain, only humidity. I can’t bear humidity over 30% if the temperature is over 70 F. Let it thunder, rage, pour, and roar, I say; otherwise, give me back the clarity (60-80 miles visibility) and the comfort of low humidity between 5% and 15%, even with temperatures around 100 F. (I’m talking about Tucson, not Phoenix, which sits at less than half of our altitude of 2600 feet and is a thoroughly miserable place to be in the summer.)
Reenie, I hope the sun makes more than a cameo appearance for you in Glasgow.

Thanks for the insight, Laura. Humidity is the enemy and it was damp this morning. My sinsuses have been unbearable all day and I spent the afternoon in bed.
Going to the neurologist tomorrow to see if he can help. _________________ The Daily Turnout - King of the Throne Room

Sorry to hear about your sinus suffering, Reenie. You said you’re seeing a neurologist about it. That sounds like my own condition, which I’ve called sinus neuralgia. The pain drove me to accept an Rx for gabapentin (generic of Neurontin), which I’ve been on for a year now. My dosage has been 300 mg three times per day. It is a central nervous system suppressant, and it quiets down those sinus nerves that are screaming bloody murder. There’s a warning not to drive until you know how it affects you.
For a short stretch, my mind was very slowed down. During that time, I would periodically put on my Churchill voice and, while successively pointing to two opposite points on my skull, would solemnly pronounce, “From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, a dark curtain has fallen [gesture: falling straight arm] across the capitals of my brain.” Fortunately, my brain adjusted, but then, so did the sinus nerves to a small degree.
In any case, I hope you feel better, Reenie.
