Yep like the passport all you need for the drivers license is a letter from a doctor. Though i also need to send them my passport as ID, or 2 forms of other id (which i don't have). Hence another reason for getting the passport done first.

does the letter confirming your gender have to be from dr Curtis or can it be from your usual gp?
i have a letter from dr C but it's very detailed and i'm not fussed on sending my life story to the passport agency . i could ask him for a short form letter but i won't see him again til late June/early July.
The template letter i got off the ftm network is ideal and i guess i could just print that off and get my gp to sign it...? _________________ forum moderator

I still havent changed my name and gender on my passport yet. Im hopeless with paperwork etc. Could someone tell me what exactly I have to do?
I have the passport form from the post office and I have the letter from Dr Lorimer at the Claybrook. I need to get 2 new photos that dont need to be signed, yes? I send my old passport, the letter from GIC, passport form and new pics, yes? Is there a fee for doin this?
Thanks

sounds like you pretty much have it sorted, mike
just fill in the form as a 'change of details' (as the sheet will direct you) and include those few things.
you have to pay the fee you usually do to get a passport. _________________ forum moderator

I got paranoid when I found out about a case of a transsexual whose name and photo was changed, but not the sex, so I put in the "additional details" section "Sex must be changed from M to F" _________________ It's never too late to be who you might have been. - Mary Ann Evans

yeah, i've heard of silly mistakes like that happening. but surely the doctor's letter covers the 'changing gender' part.
if ever anything like that does happen, and the same goes for any mistakes on a passport, complain and they should replace it for you free of charge. _________________ forum moderator

yeah it's really easy mike, you just pick up a passport renewal form from the post office, and there's a box for change of name you can tick on the form as you fill it out. i did it last year and it cost me about £60 which isn't too bad, it came back in like a week although it can take 3 apparently.

that shouldnt happen, because as you fill out the form you have to tick a gender, so as long as you tick male (cos you fill out the form in your correct name and gender, obviously, not the old stuff), there really shouldn't be a problem! i'd imagine the person who they made a mistake with might not have filled out the form correctly...
