I'm just filling in the form for my new passport, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not i need to get my new photos signed? I mean on the form it says i don't need to do that if the pic on the old passport is clearly me, but i'm not sure if that still stands when i have changed my name/ gender.

all major post offices have a witnessing service they look at your photo look at you then tick the back and send it for you

they also do it for driving licences - the reason is it stops you having to post precious documents in the post that criminals can intercept BC and so on

however soon if you are applying for a passport you will have to go to a regional passport office and have a short interview (see BBC News)

The post office won't do the witnessing thing for a change of name. Or at least that was what I was told in October. I don't know why, it seems a bit daft.

From what I understand, if the two photos are recognisable as both you, then you don't need it signed.

I certainly didn't need mine signing.

yep, to my knowledge as long as they are recognisable no signing has to be done

however getting 'acceptable' photos is another thing

remember, dont smile, have right background, no hat..... Very Happy

To get a good passport photo, get it done in a photo shop rather than one of those booths in the supermarket... they make sure that its perfect for passport photo for you.

already got it done, sent it off via check and sent yesterday.

The ppl in the post office took ages, insisting i needed to get the photo countersigned, they wouldn't even believe me when i showed them it said i didn't have to in the notes. Then they couldn't understand when i said i didn't want to pay extra to have my supporting docs sent back secure delivery, when they were copies! And then asked if i wanted to include the letter from Dr Curtis! i mean like why would i have put it in if i did not?

God the post office is annoying.

By letter from Dr.curtis do you mean his short standard one about it being ok to apply for a new passport?

Was debating sending it off [As i was still dubious about it being that simple to do, even after double checking with him] and it's just been hanging around in my ever-so-large piles of 'stuff' that seem to accumlate in my room.

Thanks, Amiy

Good point i guess, ive been putting off spending the money. Problem is you never know when an out of country Anime Convention or guild Meet-up will magically occur after 'lots of planning' that you never noticed.

These things happen Razz

But yeah, would be good for that reason; if it's possible to change the gender on the passport, then does the same apply to things such as Driving Licenses. I dont have one yet, but im even less motivated to get one if ill only have to hassle about changing it later.
