Subject : UK: A Framework for Fairness Consultation Events
Following on from the publication of the Government's Green Paper (A
Framework for Fairness: Proposals for a Single Equality Bill for Great
Britain) last week, there are to be a number of public consultation events.
We would like as many trans people to attend as possible in order to
lobby for an expansion in the scope of trans protection.
Although the Government is proposing to extend the protections afforded
to transsexual people (those intending to undergo, undergoing or having
undergone gender reassignment) into other areas, the majority of our
community - who don't feel any need for medical intervension - will
remain unprotected in all areas.
This is a consultation however, and it is incumbent on all of us to push
for the maximum protections for the maximum number.
Last year's consultation events for the Equalities Review drew
significant numbers of trans people - and minds were changed. From
almost no mention in the Initial Report, to transgender being held up as
a seventh equality stream.
So, if you can make it along to one of the four events, you can really
make a difference. See below for detail of how to book a place.
