Anyone else had this lately?

The phone rings, you answer it and the line is dead. You dial the calling number (check on 1471) and you get number unobtainable.

Numbers are from the Manchester area, for example:

0161 6567700

0161 9060312
0161 9060313
0161 9060315

Once in a while, it's not a problem, but several times a day is a nuisance. I've got some research ongoing... Wink

Yes, and it's one of the reasons why i turned the ringer off on my land line.
The calls are from call centres phoning up more numbers than they have operators. Should be banned in my opinion.

Try putting those numbers into this website

The four principal sources of silent or abandoned calls generated by use of automated calling systems are: telemarketing; market research; financial services, including debt recovery; and number scanning.

The latter involves dialing a sequence of phone numbers to determine which ones are in service. The results are used to develop a ‘clean’ list of active numbers which can be sold.
