Previous news reports have named the murder suspect as 18-year old "unemployed Shanniel Hyatt."

Now we are told he is 17, and can not be named for legal reasons.

A 17-year-old has been charged with the murder of transexual Kellie Telesford.

The teen appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court this morning.

Forty-year-old Kellie Telesford was found dead at her home in Leander Road, Thornton Heath, last Wednesday.

Born Kayiode Dexter-Telesford, she had been living as a woman for a number of years.

A 20-year-old woman who was being held in custody has been released on police bail until January.

Police have appealed for anyone who had any contact with Miss Telesford between November 15 and 21 to contact them.

what ever motivated this person to murder is likely to be in no small part due to the medias and religions negative portrayals of trans folk

Most transphobic assaults are carried out by teenagers.

I don't have an explanation for it, but think it part of the Culture of Narcissism where the sufferings of others have no reality for them.

Kellie Telesford was found dead in her flat in Thornton Heath, south London, on November 21, after friends raised concerns for her welfare.

Officers forced their way into the flat and discovered her body.

The 40-year-old was born as a man, named Kayiode Dexter Telesford, but had lived as a woman for several years.

Jobless Shanniel Hyatt, of Thornton Heath, was charged with murder between November 18-21 and will appear before Croydon Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A 20-year-old woman who was also being held in custody at a south London police station, was released on police bail until January.

Police appealed to anyone who had contact with Miss Telesford between November 15 and 21 to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons, leading the investigation, said: "We would also like to speak to anyone who knew or who has had a relationship with Kellie to help us build a picture of her lifestyle."

Miss Telesford was known to have frequented popular gay and lesbian nightspots in the Croydon and Brixton areas, and Mr Lyons said the help of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community was vital to the investigation.

"I would also like to reassure all parts of the community affected by Kellie's murder that our dedicated team of detectives are committed to finding the person responsible," he said.

Man remanded over transvestite

A south-east London teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of a transvestite.

Kellie Telesford, 40, who was born a man but lived as a woman, was found strangled at her flat on November 21.

Shanniel Hyatt, 18, of Northborough Road, Norbury, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared at the Old Bailey.

I am getting a bit sick of this to be honest and this plays a part in the 'untouchable' attitude that many wayward thug teens have today - although in some areas of the UK they are now naming them

Shanniel Hyatt has already been named as the accused in the media, on a number of occasions, so as his name is already in the public domain, there can be no good reason for withholding it further.
