Hi all Smile

I am pre everything and would really like top surgery as quick as possible really.
Can I go private for this and where is the best place to go if I can?
How do I go about it even?

I am not on hormones yet, I am scheduled to see my local shrink in two weeks for a much needed referral to GIC.

I know it's a long process, but I am unhappy with breasts and just need to say bye to them!

Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved

Thank you Smile

Hi Max

We'd all like top surgery as quickly as possible mate, so you're definitely not alone there! However, I don't know of any private surgeons in the UK who are willing to do full chest reconstruction without you being on T and having a referral letter. - though some may accept just a letter. If you have a sympathetic GP, you could try and get them to write you a letter, although whether or not this on its own would be accepted I don't know.

If you just want breast reduction surgery, that's easy enough to obtain privately, but it won't leave you with a flat, masculine chest - although it will make it easier to bind - however, you'll probably end up having a further operation at a later date.

There are surgeons in the US who don't require you to be on T before chest surgery, but again, I'm pretty sure they require a letter before they'll do the operation - especially if you're not on T I'd guess!

An easier route would be to go privately for hormones - I know you're already considering that - and then ask Dr Curtis to write you a surgery letter (he'll charge extra for the letter, but he does do them) and then go privately for surgery. If you're able to travel, there's a choice of hundreds of surgeons in the UK, Europe and the US. Check out Transster for loads of surgery photos to help you make your decision on who to go to!

Join the club. You're not the only one. There are loads of us on here who feel exactly the same. Most of us cant afford to go private for our chest op, so you're lucky that you can even think about doin it.
Ive had to cope with a 44E chest all the way thru my transition which is comin up for 3 yrs now. Im only just gunna be get my chest op in sept.

I found this site one day whilst (at work..ssshhh!!!) browsing the web:-

http://www.kliniksanssouci.de/en/sex_reassignment/female_to_male/surgical_procedure_fm.php

You need to meet a certain criteria which is listed but if you are well loaded you can get the whole lot done in one go. You need to have been on hormonal treatment for at least 6-8 month and have have two recommendations for the S.R.S, from two separate clinical psychologists.

I can't seem to find the cost on the site now but it is not cheap. Think I may have emailed them to get the costs and can't remember what it totalled. I've never seen or heard of anywhere that does the whole top surgery and bottom surgery all in one go like this place does. Can't find any examples of their work either. I did consider taking out a massive loan and getting it all over and done with at this place but decided against it after a lot of consideration (money being the main problem).

I've heard about places offering that, but I didn't think anywhere still did, due to the MASSIVE strain that amount of surgery puts on the body. Personally, I definitely wouldn't go for that, tempting though it may seem to get it all over with in one go, it just seems like too much at once in my opinion.

Being on 'T' is not an issue for most surgeons, and in fact a few will ask you to come off it (reduces risk of hematoma (sp?) ).

However, ALL will ask for a letter from a gender psych, so unfortunately you will have to wait to see one.

You can see a private gender psych as well, waiting lists for NHS clinics can be 6+ months whereas waiting lists for private clinics are around 2-3 weeks.

You will usually need 2 appointments with 3 months spacing inbetween for what is called the Real Life Test (this only applies if you haven't been living as the correct sex).

With NHS clinics it may be different though, and you could go through another 6+ months of waiting again to get another appointment.

As for private surgery, go to www.transster.com and create a free account so you can browse results, and see if there's any surgeons that parcticularly impress you.

This webpage http://ukftmboy.tripod.com is an anonymous account of one guy's private surgery who travelled from the UK to America. It has a good breakdown of his costs.
