I just finished Mass Effect on the PC. I had heard that the draconian DRM had been removed. I was mistaken, as it had only been partially lightened, not removed.

The game, however, was excellent, if not quite as long as I'd come to expect from bioware. Plus the plot wasn't as flexible as previous games, even if the dialogue was much better than before (no more "ok, I'll be your best friend, have all my money"/ "I hate you and will break your ribs now" as your only dialogue options)

I don't really play video games as such, but I recently discovered a free version of the old Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy text-based adventure game on the BBC website, which has made me very happy indeed - and I can envisage a good number of hours being spent on this in the not-too-distant future! Very Happy

Last Computer Game was called Pandemic 2 on Kongregate games webstie. Its an awesome strategy game where you have to infect the whole world. It gets a bit stressful, but its well addictive. I completed it in 5 hours, my games genius of a friend had been playing obsessivly(sp?) for 2 weeks and still not finished it.
Last XBOX 360 game is Kane and Lynch. Very good 2 player shooter game. The graffics are top notch and its bloody hard! Me and my kid brother have gone mental on it, but can't play atm as my cousin has lynched my 2nd control pad

Last game I played on the computer was Why the FUCK won't Win2K format a drive greater than 137GB. I won eventually, by tweaking the registry...

The last game I finished was Final Fantasy XII on a Playstation2. A totally awesome game. I spent about 350 hours on it, only because I wanted to do all the side quests and get all the items.

Last game I played (Apart from World of Warcraft Razz) was Titan Quest for the PC. Great mechanics and a wonderful setting, just a dire way of telling the story. I believe Blizzard, with Diablo II, got around this by having epic cinematics between chapters which told the story and kept quests to a minimum because they realised all you really wanted to do was hack and slash ^^

Good game overall but the final boss was a total step up from anything before and the 2 paragraphs of dialogue I got at the end really wasnt worth the effort Wink

Love and Taste the Flames of Sulfuron!

Me too with World of Warcraft but I've been going through the skirmishes on Warhammer 40K: Dark Crusade. I know it's a bit simplistic but I've got good memories of playing it as a LAN game and I still enjoy it as a stress buster Very Happy

I have been playing Warcraft 3 plus The Frozen Throne and Starcraft lately, I haven't played either of them in years. They have started to get boring again, so I think it will be back to Mount and Blade and Victoria:An Empire Under the Sun.

WOW, never played that game, I am completely opposed to a game that you have to pay for after you have bought it. Also I don't like elves or gnomes. Twisted Evil

I've heard victoria is just about impenetrable, as far as games go. it looks a lot like Europa Universalis, and I heard (don't know for sure) it's by the same people?

As far as not liking GNOMES go.... I've never felt so enraged in my whole life. the elf-distaste is OK by me though. Razz

Since I'm currently in the middle of nowhere, I've not got access to most of my games, and none of the new good ones, so I'm giving Imperial Glory a playthrough, as well as Stronghold.

Yeah, the learning curve is very steep, but once you are in, all other games seem simplistic.

Yes it is.

I feel sorry for you. Sad

I recomend Mount and Blade:

neither are bad games. I like the indepth charm of stronghold and the combat of imperial glory, just a bit miffed that I can't continue on playing my current lot. (Supreme commander, Bioshock, Titan Quest, and Medieval 2 (hoping Empire will be a more... refined game than medieval 2, but not really expecting much...))

I have played Europa Universalis 1 and 2 for quite a while each, enough to know that I'll probably not have the patience for Victoria, games like that, even once I get past the theory, have a lot of trouble engaging me. No fault of their own, judging by the fanbase, but simply a matter of taste.

Mount and blade seems interesting, but realistic cavalry combat is surprising. How do they balance realistic combat with the fact that cavalry archers have quite a proven record of sweeping all before them with little resistance?

It is balanced. Horse archers are very powerful, but they do run out of ammo and are forced into melee combat, against spears(and mobs of infantry) they die very quickly because their horses are not very good at charging holes in the enemy line. Also they are not very good in a castle assualts, because there armour is not as heavy as the other factions and some of their combat stats are lower.

Logical enough to use necessary holes in game dynamics to balance horse archers. One of the reasons I like no game to be totally realistic is that, especially in combat games, tactics are -not- balanced. There's usually a way of doing things that leaves no real counter. in the medieval period, as Genghis Khan (weird that we use his title, not his name, eh?) and his horde shown us, that was to put guys on horseback with bows.

Still, enough about this, we can't be the only gamers here. Smile

oh! I just noticed, yay dark crusade fan Very Happy I played that game -all- the time. Who do you play as? I have a thing for the Imperial Guard, though when I want stress relief, I'd use the necrons. nothing like an invulnerable army of slow moving doom massacring all who come before them for cheap laughs.
