ok

just do this

go to world teleport home

SL is made up of large squares or 'the grid' these squares are called sims

not all sims are open some are owned by groups you have to join and so on - some dont even exist yet and are greyed out

when you cross a sim into another sim weird things can happen - your hair can detach itself or lose a shoe LOL

the faster you travel the worse it can be - vehicles like cars, planes and boats suffer the worse look at your minimap and avoid sim corners as thats 4 areas coming together and weird stuff can happen stick to crossing the middle of sims - 4 servers trying to decide where you are going can crash your av

usually a reboot will fix this obviously the faster your connection and the better your video card the better it is

SL is amazing just stick with it

Wink

SL will pretty much fail to run on any kind of dialup connection.
I think the program specs do specify a broadband conenction.

http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php

* Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL
* Operating System: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
o OR Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4)
NOTE: Second Life does NOT currently support Windows Vista
* Computer Processor: 800MHz Pentium III or Athlon, or better
* Computer Memory: 256MB or better
* Video/Graphics Card**:
o nVidia GeForce 2, GeForce 4mx, or better
o OR ATI Radeon 8500, 9250, or better

it runs on SP1 Smile

Yeah it needs Broadband there is simply too much information pouring in all the time for a narrowband wire to handle

comon get BB what you doin Mike Smile its cheaper in most case now anyhow SmileP

one trick is to make the window smaller - 640 x 480 for example some places are worse than other - this is in SL called LAAAAG Smile

in other words the draw settings (the amount you processess around you can be turned down A LOT so you see say only 10 yrds around you for example if you are seeing for miles you have to downoad all of that all the time as you move around the less you see then the better it is Smile

amke sure you have the latest quicktime and the latest DIRECT X installed too BTW Smile

Hi Everyone

I am new to this site, but when I found this bit about Second Life I just had to say hi. Been playing SL for almost 1 year now. Love it, but only 3 people in it know that I Transgender. I am post op M To F. But more about me later Smile .

Oh and SL is free.

SL is power and graphic hungry software and needs a realy good graphics card in your PC. Those would be my main tips. Plenty of memory and a realy good graphics card.

Hope this helps anyone trying to join sl or having probs with it.

WitchLady
