Well i've now had a hate phone call on my old mobile number, they witheld their number and goaded me about being a transsexual, and they laughing as well.

When is is going to stop, I get abuse on my estate, they've insulted me on my landline, forcing me to pay £3.50 per month to block witheld numbers, now they hassle me on my mobile.

This all makes me concerned for my safety

Not sure of the laws in the UK, but here in the states, if I can prove I am getting calls like this on my cell number, then I can have it changed for free and my old cell number is then monitored by the police for repeat calls.

Malicious calling is a criminal offence. Ofcom advises you to contact your telephone company (both landline and mobile) and report the matter.

As it's a criminal offence, you should also contact the police.

Buy a handset with a digital screen that shows the number. They're cheap these days.

The phone company does not need to run a "trace". They know the number already and can bar it for free.
I'd also start thinking where the individual got the phone number from because chances are they know you.

I don't believe this. Furthermore, why would you hand out your mobile to all and sundry?

I submit that you are a professional victim, one who plays a game described by Eric Berne as "Why Don't You -- Yes But"

By way of elaboration:

Berne, who developed Transactional Analysis, provides the general reader with a field guide to ''games,'' familiar patterns of interaction that rely on plausible cover stories to conceal ulterior, often unconscious, motives. In the game of ''Why Don't You -- Yes But,'' players begin by bemoaning a problem and inviting others to suggest solutions, all of which will be shot down. The real object, Berne writes, is ''to demonstrate that no one can give them an acceptable suggestion.''

If this be so, kindly take it elsewhere. We're here to help people, not to pander to a need to play psychological games.

I'm sorry to hear that your having such a hard time Stephanie. I have had problems in the past with transphobic abuse. Twice, I honestly thought I was going to get my head kicked in. It really does affect you and over time it can wear you down. So my heart goes out to you.

How do you think they got your mobile number? I must admit that I would be concerned that someone I knew had been involved in passing it on.

It really is a shame that a member comes here for support and has people diagnose them as an attention seeker and worse. I hope you have the strength to ride out this storm Stephanie . Everyone deserves to live in peace and safety.

Best wishes.

It's funny how one's own account of matters can vary completely from the truth. I'll leave you two to support each other, you have a lot in common.

isolation and abuse can be terrifying and lead to distress, panic attacks, sweating, numbness, inability to sleep

constant checking of every sound - paranoia and depression or even suicide

this is a very serious issue and you have my deepest sympathy

the only recourse for you is the contact the police as it is an offence to carry out hate crime in this way

if you are frightened where you live - do you have a confidant/e a friend you trust who can visit - can you speak to your housing officer about possible relocation - although its unfair you would have to move as its not your fault

if you feel confident you can cope and stand up for yourself and your rights - then do you best to use a new mobile PAYG and only give the number to a few people you trust - if that number is then abused its fairly easy to narrow down the culprit and get them arrested

hope this helps

but this as you well know is a very complex and upsetting subject

start a blog and post your daily thoughts

My advice - talk to the communication ombusman or comunication minsiter's office, and make a complaint about your case to them if the phone company isn't taking action against phone harrasment, also might be a good idea to get a silent phone number so the bastards who are doing all this crap can't track your number as it will be listed as unknown.

ONLY give your number to sombody who you can trust fully, that's the only way to keep away from prank phone calls.

Goodluck and I hope you'll be ok.

I have to ask the question Steph.... how did they get your mobile number... unless you have a habit of giving it to others then it's an ex friend, or someone you know who has given it to someone else... so the moral of this story is... dont give out your number unless you trust them... simple innit...

Denise
