I'm reading The Mike Hammer Collection Volume 1 which is actually 3 books by Mickey Spillane shoved together in one book. I've read it (them?) before but as that was a while ago I thought I'd read it again, especially as I'd like to finally read Volume 2 at some point, and though I don't think you have to read these books in order I'd prefer to lol.

You know I've never read those. It's funny, it's one of those story lines I only know because of all the parodies and piss-takes I've seen about it (e.g. Star Trek TNG, Looney Tunes, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid), but I've never actually read the source. I should get a copy.

Perfume - haven't seen the movie though, but would like to, considering the book's a bit too detailed. I know my genre is hardcore scif-fi so I got no idea what am I doing with this one. Guess I need to blame my friends Razz

The Tamir Triad by Lynn Flewelling, which is very odd. Odd as in good.

It's about a set of twins who are born as princesses/prince's but all females are killed because the kingdom don't want a woman leader. The prince is cursed at birth because he didn't come out right (superstitions and such) and is killed, but the magicians present at the birth put a type of glamour over the female child so she appears male. This is because they want her to grow up and rule, how the old ways once were but without the threat of her being killed.

So, this kid is growing up male. But, is really female.

Interesting.

I am currently reading the highway code, and lcd learner driver book lol but also reading a book by Hugh Laurie (the actor from Blackadder, and House M.D. *Dr Gregory House*) called, "Gun Seller" - whilst reading it, you imagine the character to be half Dr. House and half Hugh Laurie, it isn't supposed to be that way I don't think, but you just see/feel the sarcasim and general humour of him in his writing.

Lately I have read... 8 C.S.I: Crime Scene Investigation, original novels by Max Allan Collins. I really enjoy C.S.I so I gave the books ago. And throughly enjoyed the Las Vegas set ones.

I've now also read One Red Paperclip by Kyle Macdonald, and today I've started reading Penguins Stopped Play by Harry Thompson - I must've bought it a while back and not got round to reading it, and just found it when I realised I had nothing to read on the bus today! Time for some more book shopping, I think... hmm, Amazon, Abe or Waterstones...?

It's good then? I was looking at it in Waterstones the other day, and quite fancy it. It's in the 3 for 2 I think - might have to pop along there this weekend, I'm sure I can easily find two more books to buy Wink

For books I've found that the book depository is a great site, if you know what you are looking for especially, some books at good and cheap prices and free postage. I use this site all the time when I buy books - safe money where ya can Laughing

So, I'm now on the John O'Farrell that Becky was talking about, and am also finding it very entertaining. I like his informal writing style - I might check out his other books sometime. It's the third of the 3 for 2 that I bought in Waterstones a few weeks back, so in between I've also read How Low Can You Go?: Round Europe for 1p Return (+ Tax) by Tom Chesshyre, which was OK but not brilliant, and Here We Go Gathering Cups In May - Liverpool In Europe: The Fans' Story by a number of different authors, which was a fantastic read (if you're a Liverpool fan anyway!) Very Happy

Need to get some more reading material soon though, before I run out again!

I'm reading 'last of the wilds' by Trudi Canavan, after reading 'the dreaming void' by Peter F Hamilton. I really enjoyed the latter, and haven't quite finished the other yet, but it's also shaping up to be a fun book.

Finished the Magician trilogy by Trudi Canavan a few weeks ago, really enjoy her writing. Re-reading Magician by Raymond Feist at the moment though ^^

the magician trilogy is very good. I read novice in a single day.

Have you read the other 2 books in the riftwar series? I assume so, and what about the Empire trilogy, with Mara? I found the empire to be even better than riftwar, because I like scheming and plotting in books. I'd recommend the 'age of five' books by trudi, the series I'm reading currently, they're not as immediately catchy and readable as magician, but the plot is deeper and it ultimately feels more satisfying to read.

Yeah I took Novice in with me for a night shift and read it all the same night, couldn't put it down Smile

Planning to re-read the whole Riftwar series Smile Not read the other related books but my dad has them and I'll pinch them off him after I'm done with that and a load of Philip Pullman stuff Very Happy
